DOC1® 5.4 from Pitney Bowes' Group 1 Software Delivers Powerful New Document Composition Capabilities
Latest version of leading document composition solution provides enhanced capabilities and support for content collaboration, content repository management, color management, and emerging international markets
LANHAM, MD (November 27, 2007)–Group 1 Software, Inc., a Pitney Bowes Company (NYSE: PBI), today announced the release of DOC1® Series 5 Version 5.4, the latest version of the company’s flagship, high-performance document composition solution, now featuring enhanced performance and functionality benefiting a wide range of applications, users and document types.
“DOC1 Series 5 is the core component of Group 1 Software’s Customer Communication Management (CCM) suite of products,” said Alan Slater, vice president and general manager of CCM for Group 1 Software. “The release of DOC1 Version 5.4 marks the culmination of a significant body of work that further strengthens this flagship product. Only Group 1 Software customers can leverage a suite of products that manage every aspect of customer communications, from data acquisition and content collaboration, design and production, to multi-channel delivery and web-based customer care.”
Key new features and enhancements in DOC1 Version 5.4 include:
- New Content Collaboration System–DOC1 has been updated to work with the new web-based Content Author message creation environment. Message Box objects used in conjunction with both Message 1 and Content Author can now shrink or grow to fit the available content from either a top or bottom anchor position. Messages from these systems can also now be used as part of the main document flow and can span pages.
- Enhanced Document Design Functionality–More barcode types have been added and many barcodes are now scalable for AFP, Postscript, and PDF output. A new Margin Notes feature allows the positioning of eye-catching content adjacent to specific transactions or other data in the main flow. Design objects can now be positioned at a fixed location in a page layout according to values in input data or other variables. Right-to-left text flow is also now supported for languages such as Arabic, and images can now be assigned a URL link for browsable output formats.
- Faster and Easier Configuration Management–SQL 2005 is now supported as the DOC1 repository and the SQL repository database can be managed on a remote server. Switching between repository databases is more convenient. Windows Vista is also now supported.
- Output Datastreams and Print Resources Improvements–JPEG graphic files used in publication designs can now be passed through directly to PDF output. Outline fonts are now supported for AFP output using the recent DOF format, and page throws can be forced before the data for an individual row is complete. Images may now be excluded from the DOC1 HIP file where printer resident resources are available, and additional printer resources can now be added to the DOC1 HIP file format even when they are not directly referenced by an application. DOC1 version 5.4 also contains a range of improvement for the IJPDS stream, including font import, 300×600 dpi support, and fidelity with CMYK images.
- Emerging Markets and Language Support Enhancements–Characters specific to Eastern European languages are now supported for the key output datastreams, including AFP, PDF, PostScript, PostScript derivatives, and IJPDS. Double-byte data is now fully supported for presentation in the Data Format Editor for the keyed record data type. The variation of PostScript required by the TruePress Jet 520 printer is now supported. Output code page management has been extended to specifically support the Fujitsu JEF and the Hong Kong extended character set (HKSCS). Customer code pages can also now be handled.
