Group 1, Language Analysis Systems (LAS) Enter Into Global Alliance

Group 1 to Market and Resell LAS's Advanced Name Recognition Software

HERNDON, Va., and LANHAM, Md., July 7, 2004 — Language Analysis Systems, makers of powerful name recognition software, and Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF ) today announced a global alliance. Under the agreement, Group 1 will act as a worldwide distributor of LAS's name-recognition technology, which includes a complete suite of tools for parsing, cleansing, matching and scoring names. Through this partnership, Group 1 will make this sophisticated technology available on a global basis to its current and prospective customers.

With the globalization and automation of business processes, customer identity has become a critical business asset. Corporations track most business transactions by personal name, and revenue is directly tied to optimum management of these transactions. Organizations also identify by name and reward their best customers while tracking and monitoring their worst customers, such as those suspected of fraud or those having potential terrorist connections.

"Data quality is an issue that enterprises of all sizes should be addressing in a proactive, and not a reactive, fashion," said Ted Friedman, principal analyst at Gartner, Inc. "With the increasing globalization of commerce and the continued free flow of data across borders, organizations should employ techniques that can maximize the quality of their global customer information. A foundation of accurate data can help organizations increase the effectiveness of their decision-making processes."

Substantial business planning efforts, including marketing and IT systems, are focused on rewarding best customers and avoiding worst customers. LAS addresses this need through its patent-pending advanced name-recognition technology, which is utilized to solve the business problems of automating multicultural personal names in databases, text, and voice. By incorporating LAS's technologies within its data quality suite, Group 1 will be able to provide organizations a solution for the challenge of managing name data.

"The data quality market is turning into a global business," said Jack Hermansen, CEO of LAS. "Whether you are a government agency, a global bank, or have a multi-cultural U.S. customer base, you have to process and treat people's names accurately, regardless of the culture. We're excited to be working with Group 1, which brings a global marketing, sales and support network to our partnership."

"We are pleased to be able to offer our customers LAS's advanced technology, which is an excellent complement to our data quality product line," said Bob Bowen, CEO of Group 1 Software. "LAS's software enhances our ability to manage complex, multicultural personal names, a capability that is especially important as we expand our focus into both global and security-related engagements."

Group 1's data quality solutions are the cornerstone of successful CRM initiatives and other customer-centric enterprise applications. These solutions enable businesses to ensure the integrity of customer and prospect data, and enhance that information with valuable geographic, demographic and business-oriented intelligence. With these technologies, enterprises can measure customers' true value to the organization and maximize profitability, increase organizational data sharing and make more informed business decisions.

LAS supports Linux, Windows and UNIX platforms.
