Texas Legislative Council To Utilize Group 1's Centrus Technology In On-line Resource That Helps Texans Identify Local and State Legislators
Centrus' AddressBroker and Spatial+ Implemented As Underlying Technology of "Who Represents Me," Agency's Web-Based Information Portal
Philadelphia, PA — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) today announced that the Texas Legislative Council has implemented Group 1's Centrus AddressBroker and Spatial+ software solutions for real-time utilization in its “Who Represents Me” Web-based resource. The announcement was made at the Location Technology and Business Intelligence Symposium, which is being held May 10-11 on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Group 1's AddressBroker and Spatial+ provide address verification and geographic enrichment, the underlying technology enabling citizens to obtain an accurate list of their local and state elected officials. The Texas Legislative Council, under the guidance of a 14-member council, provides drafting, computing, research, and publishing services to the Texas Legislature and legislative agencies. The agency also serves as an information resource for state agencies, the citizens of Texas, and others as time and resources allow.
The Texas Legislative Council developed “Who Represents Me” to provide citizens information about current districts and members of the Texas Senate, Texas House of Representatives, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the State Board of Education. The Centrus technology verifies and standardizes input addresses and then performs a spatial search against the state's legislative boundary files to determine an individual's local and state legislators.
“Centrus was the only business geographics technology that could meet all of our business needs,” said Mark Barrington, GIS programmer/analyst at the Texas Legislative Council. “Centrus is extremely easy-to-use and very accurate, enabling us to place locations on the proper side of a street, which is crucial when helping individuals identify legislators based on voting district boundaries. Additionally, using the Centrus technology, we can direct citizens to the appropriate voting precinct, a valuable resource for the citizens of Texas.”
“We are excited to be working with the Texas Legislative Council to provide the citizens of Texas valuable information about their local and state legislators,” said Steve Walden, vice president and general manager of Group 1's Centrus division. “Governmental organizations can rely on Centrus to provide timely and accurate location-based intelligence that can enhance constituent service.”
